And now, on to this week’s galleries of submissions!

My submission: This image was one of the first images I posted on Visual Venturing, back in March 2014. I actually chose to post a black and white version on Monochromia (live at 1:00 PM today). But before doing so, I redid the post-processing of the original. If you take a look at the originally processed image, you’ll understand why. I thought it would be fun to share the reprocessing of this image to show the benefit of 14 months of working with editing software.  Using a combination of LR6/CC and Nik Color Efex Pro, I demonstrate the new LR filter brush to remove portions of a graduated filter and the use of control points in Nik Color Efex to remove portions of a filter mask.

As for the original image, I took it almost four years ago to the day while touring London. I was so intent on capturing the Bobby tying his shoe that I didn’t notice the machine-gun-wielding Bobby in the back 🙂 I shot this on my Nikon D90 as a jpeg.

Robin says: Last Friday, approximately 50 WW II vintage aircraft participated in a Flyover of Washington, DC.  Thousands of people jammed into the city to watch the spectacle.  Photographers schemed for weeks in advance of the event to identify the perfect place to get the best shots.  Will this be a story about the Joy of Victory or the Agony of Defeat?   1. Stacy you did a great job re-editing the photo, I liked your previous edit, but I *really* like your current edit, it has just a touch of HDRishness that I like. That Bobby with the gun is kinda scary… I thought the UK was a no guns for police place, I guess that has changed… of course my knowledge is from British shows that are set in the past (like George Gently, Morse, Lewis, Life on Mars, Foyle’s War, etc.), so maybe I’m just not up to date – heh.

    • Thanks, Nic! It was alot of fun to revisit this photo. Maybe I’ll do more of that for ABF 😉 As for the gun-toting Bobby, the times they are a-changing (or I guess it’s past tense since this was from a number of years ago). Sad commentary ….

  4. Very interesting idea to take an image you’ve processed before and give it another go. You definitely have improved your “skill set.” The original was very good and while the changes from that one are not dramatic, the subtle differences are well worth the invested time. Also. thanks again for being the ABFriday Hostess!

    • Thanks, Robin! I don’t really know what sent me down the road to older images but I kinda like it. Believe me, there are quite a few photos I’ve posted that I could do this with! And you’re very welcome 🙂

    • Thanks, Ben. I was pretty pleased with the updated edits, especially given that it was a JPEG. I actually think I like the black and white a little better. I’ll be interested to hear which one you prefer.

  8. Stacy, this has to be one of the best videos you’ve done since I’ve been watching, I love the original starting preset you used and want to try to duplicate it for my own use. Also, it seems that everything you chose was very subtle but, as a whole really made a difference. You are the queen! Beautifully done!

    • Wow, Emilio, really? In British parlance, I’m gobsmacked 😊 I’m really glad you liked it so much, and as for the preset, I’ll be happy to supply you with the slider values! All in all, a little bit of this and a little bit of that – though I do have to admit to going back and forth quite a bit with the this and that 😉 So happy you liked the ending combination.       • Yes, really! I was also surprised by so few participants this week. I’m sure most of us will be back next week. If you do remember, I would like those slider values. I tried downloading lightroom cc this week and what a mess. Ever try getting a phone number for Adobe tech support? What a joke!

        • Oops, forgot about the slider values. I promise later tonight. As for CC, I didn’t have any problems downloading it, but have had problems with any files edited in third party apps and brought back in. The only work around remains to switch off automatically saving metadata to xmp and then manually doing so upon exit. A pain, but it really is incredibly unstable and unusable for me without it. Adobe is working on it. Hope you’ve gotten an answer!
