Balloon

Challenge: Share a photo that has a little something extra.

Orange balloon laying on a ledge in a skylight nexxt to a large lighting fixture.

I spied this orange balloon high up in a skylight in my local shopping mall. Perfect for this week’s photo challenge. Unfortunately, my camera also picked up the unsightly dust on the beautiful light fixture. I went round and round about using the photo at all — until I realized I simply had more than one extra in the photo!

  1. How did the balloon get there? I like how it is such a small part of the composition yet it is also what my eye is drawn to. Maybe it is because a man I didn’t see the dust until you mentioned it.

    • Ben, your comment about the dust made me smile. I actually wondered whether to mention it at all. I think I did more because of my Type A personality than being female ;D. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  2. If I thought the first ‘extra, extra’ was extraordinary, which I did because of the inclusion of the woman’s lower leg with black shoe (balanced by the black wall fixture) being such an unexpected intrusion onto the chiaroscuro of the floor design, then THIS photograph is magnificent! A round red balloon caught resting high on a shelf, giving balance to the two circular shapes in the lower portion of the light fixture, adds up to a great balance of the rule of three in a most serendipitous way. And about the dust simply being another ‘extra’? Perfectly put! What a total delight, sharing your trip to the mall through two such fab fotos!

    • Debby, you always write the most lyrically lovely comments! And I have to admit, I didn’t make the connection between the shape of the balloon and the shapes in the light fixture (doh). But now it just jumps out at me! Thanks so much for that, and for your great comment 🙂
