This is the view literally 200 steps from my parents’ front door in Boulder, Colorado. Unable to sleep one morning, I ventured out in my bathrobe and slippers and found this unbelievable scene waiting to be photographed: sunrise on the Flatirons and NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research).

Can’t believe I missed seeing this breathtaking morning wake up call, sis! You should have beaten me into submission to trek out there with you! Ah well, at least I get to see it through your exquisite photographic eye. I snoozed and I Iosed (terrible play on words but going for the laugh … 🙂

WOW, no kidding that’s a view to behold. It’s really interesting how the sun is falling in the center of your shot and the foreground and background are shadowed. Like a big ol’ flashlight is shining down right there. Seems like your parents have picked the most glorious spot for their home. You’d usually only get scenes like this crawling out of a tent, or if your posh, a camper. xK

Boulder has been a wonderful home for them for the past 38 years! Alas, it was never one I got to live in as they moved there two years after I began college 😦 My daughter had the opportunity to attend her college years there (which would have been wonderful to know she was in the same town as my folks), but California won her over. So now I have two wonderful places to visit 🙂 Thanks, Boomdee!

Oh, you’re going to love it, Tina! You must visit Pearl Street Mall for the experience (it’s the famed Boulder outdoor mall) and take a ride up to NCAR for the view of Boulder from the top. If you’re looking for a really wonderful dining experience with an amazing view of Boulder, check out the Flagstaff House Restaurant. I don’t know how much time you have while there, but taking a drive into Estes Park is wonderful for the scenery (the town is quaint but definitely touristy) and it’s only a stone’s throw from there to the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, where you can drive Trail Ridge Road. There’s a post on my blog with photos of the view from the Alpine Visitor Center, its highest point. If you’re into Big Band music, my parents have told me of a wonderful Glenn Miller Archive at CU-Boulder. Is this a good start? 🙂

Its an amazing view, Desley! One of my favorite things is seeing the weather as it travels from the west to east make its way over the Flatirons. You can see storms coming and it totally mesmerizes me.
