ABFriday Week 55/August One Photo Focus Reveal

After-and-Before Friday Post HeaderHighlighting the creative magic behind post-processed photos

Before we get to the after-before galleries, just a reminder that today’s post reveals the August ABFriday One Photo Focus photo! What is One Photo Focus? It’s the first ABFriday of each month when all participants edit the same photo. Fun? You betcha! Check out July’s 1PF!

In a nutshell, here’s how it works:

  1. The photo to be edited is revealed in the ABF post two weeks in advance.
  2. If you’d like to join in, email me at visualventuring@gmail.com. I will send you links to the full-sized RAW and jpeg files. Download the one you wish.
  3. Email me your “after” image no later than Wednesday midnight EST, two days prior to the post. For August, the post is scheduled for August 7th, so I need your image Wednesday, August 5th.

A time zone converter and all the important submission details are on the After-Before Friday Forum page, as are the details for participating in “regular” ABFriday posts. Come along and join us in one or the other (or both) – we’re a fun-loving group!

 Now back to our regularly scheduled ABFriday post with all the creative after-before photos submitted this week!

My submission: This week, I have chosen a photo from my June trip to New York City, where I had the good fortune to see “Something Rotten” on Broadway. If you are in the city, run, don’t walk, to see this absolutely over-the-top hysterical musical with it’s showstopping score and uber-talented cast! As for my post-processing, for once I am processing a photo completely in Lightroom Creative Cloud.

Rajiv says: Mother India!  My daughter took this picture while we were stuck behind cattle on the highway. I had some fun with it.

Klara says: This time I tried something different (than the usual Lightroom processing) – out of bounds effect. Photoshop is not my strong point and I wouldn’t be able to pull this off on my own (so no explanation of the editing process), I followed step by step instructions from my favorite Gavin, Gavin Hoey (whom I credited in the post, along with the link to his tutorial video clip).

Robin says: It seems that everyone is talking about the new Dehaze tool in Adobe Camera Raw 9.1 but I am more excited about the “Merge to Panorama” capability that has been added to the same Adobe Camera Raw dialog pane.  Here is an example of how it works.

Kirsten says: This was picture was taken on the side of a busy highway.  The horse was there by himself on a lot that was for sale.  We discovered he was not alone when a rooster chased us off the property.  Who knew roosters made such good dogs?!?

  3. Love how you pulled out the detail in your photo, Stacy! Your image is amazing. I haven’t been around much lately, but hope to get some time on the weekend. Then I can catch up on everyone’s posts!

  4. Great video Stacy! It’s really amazing what detail you brought out from the sky and the shadows and turned a meh picture into a wow image! 🙂
    I’m working my way, slowly, round the other ABF posts when I win the battle of “who gets a turn on the ipad”!, but I’m enjoying them all so far. 😀

  5. Great set of contributions once again, Stacy. I was a little slow in getting to them but all were interesting and, as usual, I picked up a few new tricks from the posts of the participants. I really liked your transformation of the original image. I know how hard it is to get a full range of detail in those high contrast situations so common to NYC.

  14. I tried to leave the comment, but my Mozilla crashed, so I have no idea if it went through. I watched the video and enjoyed your explanation. The after looks so stunning, it all comes together so nicely.
