The Challenge: Tell a story by documenting a moment in time through a single image. Paris “street” life
Reportedly, there are eight traffic lanes in the roundabout surrounding the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Even from our bird’s-eye view atop the Arc, we weren’t so sure.

It’s somewhat surreal for me, it’s almost toy like at least the look of the cars. I love the tone and contrast and the overall balance of the photo is very nice, great shot! Cheers Mark

Ha! I never really thought about the “toy” effect, but now looking at it with that perspective, I find myself thinking the same thing, Mark! That’s what is so great about sharing photos – getting to see our images through others eyes is so much fun (and educational!). Thanks so much for your comment.

Great subject matter 😉 Really, the scene was just too amazingly crazy not to photograph it. Thanks so much!

No stop signs? No traffic lights?
Washington DC has “roundabouts”….I get turned around and lost every time. I try not to drive there! Take a bus or a taxi instead.

Ha, me too, Mary! Hate the darn things 🙂

I hate roundabouts. The only time I was in an accident, it was in a roundabout! Scarred for life!

Oh, I do too, Emilio, even when the lanes are marked 🙂 Hope your accident was nothing more than a fender bender!

Love your interpretation of this week’s challenge. Those poor cars, and drivers, in that round about. Chaos. Confusion. Fear. Step on the gas peddle at the wrong moment and you don’t want to think what comes next 🙂 I suppose many in Paris are used to this, and gutsy, if their roundabouts are this messy like a maze.

Exactly my thoughts, Mabel! I don’t like the roundabouts where I live, but we at least have lines painted on the road to show the lanes. Here, it’s every man for himself. Yikes 🙂 Thanks so much for your comment and for stopping by!

I don’t think I would attempt to drive there 🙂

Wow, Laura, thank you so much! It’s so funny about this picture. It’s been on a flash drive for a decade and I just never wanted to get rid of it. It always made me smile. So glad you liked it. And thanks for your kind comment!

I just think they need a few Smart Cars in there to improve the situation.

Ha! Luckily, there’s an underground passageway to the Arc for pedestrians. Can you imagine trying to cross this on foot?? Crazy…

Unreal, look at how close those two cars are to each other. The ones behind the truck in the top right… they’re about to bump together, but probably didn’t. I thought Toronto and Montreal drivers were insane.

All I can say is I was glad we were looking down at it and not IN it 🙂

Looks about as chaotic as Phnom Penh traffic!

I actually had a shot with more cars, but it didn’t turn out as well as this one 🙂 Thanks, Philip!
